Absurd Weekend

Had a fun weekend. An IT volunteer visited our city to fix some computers at the YMCA in Vanadzor. We also met up with some of the European volunteers in Vanadzor, and a few from the nearby town of Stepanavan.

I actually had to work on Saturday because we were taking Monday off because it is Armenian independence day on Tuesday. Some workplaces might be closed on one or both days, or neither. I'm not really sure. Approximate country, remember.

So we hung out with some really cool Europeans from France, Blegium, Poland, Latvia, and Lithuania. It was a fun night, hanging out at an outdoor cafe (forgot my koozie, oh no) because it was really nice these last few days, warm and sunny. It's been extremely cold this last week and rainy and I was worried it was gonna be cold from here on out, but it was gorgeous, warm, and so we sat outside. Then we went to a restaurant nearby that was pretty awesome. I had never even heard of it and still don't know the name, just where it is. We ordered a lot of food and everyone shared, (One guy got quail, so I got to try quail! Probably won't again, but I still did it) and we even got dessert, a banana split (of a sort).

It was probably one of my best meals in-country, with the people, and the atmosphere, and the actual food. I had an omelet that I shared with another person that had cilantro and mushrooms and was really good. And afterwards as we were walking out we had an impromptu dance party in front of the bar area and the bartenders eventually turned town the lights and gave us our own little dance floor, while this group of 15 Armenian men watched and clapped our dance skills (amazing, of course) and continued to clap off-beat, a time-honored Armenian tradition.

Then we went back to the European volunteers and stayed up til for chilling, listening to music, making tea, playing drums on buckets. Throughout the night and just in general while I've been here I have found myself using the word 'absurd' over and over again, in a lot of different ways, for all sorts of situations. I don't know if maybe I'm just being lazy and am in need of a thesaurus, but I like using this word here, and again just going back to everything I've said in earlier posts it really sort of fits and has become my go-to word for things that are just strange, bizarre, and beautiful all at once.
